INOYO TORO FOUNDATION AND SAVANNAH ENERGY HONOURS 22 TEACHERS AND 3 PRINCIPALS AT 2024 AWARD CEREMONY

It was a morning of celebration and recognition for teachers and principals in Akwa Ibom State Public Secondary Schools as the Inoyo Toro Foundation in collaboration with Savannah Energy held their 17th Teachers' and 7th Principals' awards for excellence event, rewarding 22 teachers for excellence in teaching Mathematics, English, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Economics and 3 outstanding principals as the best principals in public schools in Akwa Ibom State.

The event, held on Friday, November 1, 2024, attracted a notable gathering of dignitaries from across Akwa Ibom State, who were there to equally celebrate exceptional educators in the state.

The awardees, chosen for their exceptional contributions to education after passing an aptitude test and oral screening, were lauded not only for their instructional skills but also for their passion, creativity, and the positive influence on their students and other teachers as these were some of the metrics considered to be named an award-winning teacher, grand mentor or principal.

In his welcome address, which was presented shortly after an opening remark by the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Nsikak Essien, the Chairman Award Committee/COO, Inoyo Toro Foundation, Professor Enobong Joshua, stated that the foundation's final screening exercise for the award usually consists of two parts; first an aptitude test based on the WAEC/NECO curriculum and the second part an oral interaction with expert facilitators. For the grand mentors and principals, their field and administrative performances were also appraised to be considered for the award.

Also speaking at the event was the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, Hon. Charles Udoh who shared that he came from a family of teachers and there is a "teacher in him." Hence, the reason he loves associating with and supporting teachers and education as a whole, as he has done through Inoyo Toro Foundation in 15 years. He urged guests in attendance to also stretch their hands out to support education in Akwa Ibom State in the little way they can by adopting schools for mentorship as he had done.

The Chairman, State Secondary Education Board, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Ekaette Ebong Okon commended the award-winning teachers and principals, and encouraged them to keep putting out their best to improve the quality of secondary school education in the public sector. The Guest Speaker at the event, Mrs. Monica Lewis, who is the head of schools at Pegasus Schools, Eket, made an impactful presentation on the topic "The Evolution of Education and Reflections on a Personal Journey."

The event was concluded on a high note as a representative from the Foundation, Mr. Idotenyin Isaac, expressed gratitude to all honorees and attendees for their dedication to education. The Foundation inspired teachers to keep aiming for greatness and encourages more people to take up the mantle of mentorship, highlighting the essential role they play in shaping young minds and in education.
