AKSU Staff Protest In Uyo Over Unpaid Salaries

Academic and non-academic staff of Akwa Ibom State University staged a peaceful protest in Uyo today over the non-payment of May and June salaries, as well as eight months' arrears of the new minimum wage.

Staff are begging the Commissioner not to stain the governor's image and reputation but make their payments

Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that the Director of Information of the Students' Union Government issued a circular directing students to observe a sit-at-home measure. However, this was refuted by the SUG President, who subsequently announced the suspension of the Director of Information for publishing such information.

Many are now questioning the President's decision, especially as he claimed the Director shared false information, despite the fact that the school gates remain closed and staff are actively protesting over unpaid salaries.
