Today’s Upwork Tips.

I don’t know about others but one thing that has been working for me is choosing jobs very carefully. Choose jobs where you know you’re qualified or over qualified, that’s the only way to beat competition.

Secondly, STAY ACTIVE! This is literally a game changer! No matter what, make it a habit of checking upwork every 1-2 hours if you’re a beginner looking for a job. (I check mine every 10mins, I’m that addicted, 😂).

If you apply for a job within an hour of it being posted your chances of getting your proposal viewed will be increased, it’s important that you’re active on the platform whether or not you get the job. I noticed recently that the more time I spend on the app or website, the higher my chances of getting invited to a job.

Thirdly, spend your connects wisely. Don’t go crazy applying to every job you see. Take a deep breath and analyse. Look at their hourly rate, look at the reviews from previous free lancers, look at the description of the job and incorporate one to two lines from the JD to your proposal. If possible address the client by their name and also ask questions. In the end make sure you also ask them to contact you through messages or with an interview.

You’re welcome ☺️

You can be very good at what you do.
But if you are known for always replying to messages late, give unclear updates, or disappear for hours without explanation, clients will begin to lose confidence in your skills.

Making it a habit to always send quick updates to your employers will always make you stand out. Something like
“I’ve completed this task.” or “I’ll need 24 more hours to finalize this.” You don’t need to speak or write big grammar.

Try as much as you can to always respond on time. Ask smart questions. Confirm instructions. Give updates before they ask.
Many freelancers lose jobs not because they lack the skills, but because they lack proper communication etiquette.

And sometimes, good communication will win you a contract over someone more skilled but less responsive.

Remote work is not just about learning a skill. Setting yourself up properly is also important. Your phone or laptop is your office.

Your internet is your lifeline. Your communication tools are how clients judge your professionalism. Your time tracking shows your integrity. Your payment setup determines how smoothly you get paid.

Before you say you are ready to enter the remote space, ask yourself one honest question. Have I prepared like a professional, or am I just hoping it works out?

Doing freelancing alone without an accountability partner can be daunting and you'll most likely give up.
