HIKIMA COMMUNITY MOBILISATION AND DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE, HCOMDI.
International Workers’ Day | 1st May, 2026

Today, we celebrate the dedication, resilience, and invaluable contributions of workers who continue to build stronger communities and shape a better future for all.

At HCOMDI, this day reminds us that true development is driven by people through active community engagement and sustained investment in humanitarian and development. Across our communities, individuals are stepping forward, working hand in hand to promote well-being, empower people, and create opportunities that uplift lives.

From grassroots mobilization to health and educational awareness, skills development, and social inclusion, the impact of collective effort cannot be overstated. Every action taken today lays the foundation for a healthier, more inclusive, and resilient tomorrow.

As we mark this important day, we honour not just the work that is done, but the spirit behind it the commitment to serve, to uplift, and to build lasting change.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un.

With profound grief and hearts weighed down by sorrow, the entire Management, Staff, and Field Workers of Hikima Community Mobilization and Development Initiative, HCOMDI stand in mourning with our dear colleague, Abdulrahman Abdulsalam (Oga Abdul), on the painful passing of his beloved mother.

A mother is not just a parent, she is a prayer that walks beside us, a silent sacrifice that shapes our tomorrow, a gentle light that never truly fades even when she is no longer seen. Her love becomes a lifetime shelter, and her memories remain a living warmth in the hearts she nurtured.

At moments like this, words fall short and only faith speaks. We pray that Allah (SWT), in His boundless mercy, forgives her shortcomings, fills her grave with light and tranquility, expands it into a garden from the gardens of Jannah, and grants her the highest place in Aljannatul Firdaus.

May He also wrap the entire family in His comfort, strengthen their hearts with patience, replace their tears with ease, and reward them for every moment of love and care they gave to her. Though the pain of this separation is deep, we trust that Allah’s promise is true that those who return to Him in faith are welcomed with peace.

As one united HCOMDI family, we share this loss, we share these prayers, and we stand together in compassion and solidarity.

May Allah grant her eternal rest and grant the family the strength to carry this heavy test. Ameen Ya Rabb

Strengthening Community Resilience Through Financial Empowerment

We are proud exited to announce the successful completion of a 5-Day Training of Trainers on Village Savings and Loans Association, VSLA Methods, implemented by HCOMDI/CBM under the strengthening the resilience of internally displaced persons IDPs and vulnerable households in host communities across Northwestern Nigeria STILNN project.

The intervention is being implemented across four Local Government Areas Wamakko, Sokoto North, Kware, and Gwadabawa where selected community facilitators were equipped with practical skills to facilitate VSLA groups, promote savings culture, support access to small loans, and strengthen community-led economic initiatives.

During the training, participants were equipped with practical knowledge and facilitation skills on:
• Formation and management of VSLA groups
• Savings and internal lending mechanisms
• Record keeping and financial transparency
• Leadership and group governance
• Supporting economic resilience for IDPs and vulnerable households

Through the VSLA approach, participants will support households to build financial independence, improve livelihoods, manage emergencies, and reduce economic vulnerability. This is a critical step toward fostering self-reliance, social cohesion, and long-term community resilience.

We celebrate the commitment of all participants who are now ready to cascade this knowledge within their communities, ensuring that more families can benefit from sustainable financial inclusion opportunities.

Community leaders, partners, and stakeholders are encouraged to support the formation and strengthening of VSLA groups to expand impact and reach more vulnerable households. Together, we are building stronger, more resilient communities.
