Security agencies are tightening measures ahead of Saturday's Rivers South-East Senatorial by-election, with police warning against any attempt to disrupt the electoral process.

The Rivers State Police Command says adequate security arrangements have been put in place across Andoni, Tai, Khana, Gokana, Eleme, Oyigbo and Opobo/Nkoro local government areas. As part of the measures, movement will be restricted from midnight on Friday until 6 p.m. on Saturday, while essential workers involved in the election and emergency services will be allowed passage.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, also urged political parties, candidates and residents to remain peaceful and obey the law. He warned that anyone involved in election violence or any act capable of disrupting the poll will face the full weight of the law.
