GOV. FUBARA PAYS TRIBUTE TO HERBERT WIGWE, ASSURES OF IMMORTALIZING SOME OF HIS LEGACIES

Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara says the late Herbert Wigwe lived an impactful life, affecting society positively and his administration is determined to immortalise him as a worthy son of the State.

Sir Fubara made the promise at the Night of Tributes in Port Harcourt on Tuesday evening, an event that was organised by the Port Harcourt City One Love Family, to reflect, celebrate and eulogise the life of late Herbert Wigwe.

Governor Fubara described as double loss the death of Herbert Wigwe, first as an in-law, and second as a trail blazing son of the state who exhibited daring spirit known of Rivers people in pursuit of their dreams and became successful in his career with reckonable social impact.

"I have come to understand something about life, those that God has favoured, blessed and truly cherish, He does not like them to stay too long on earth because he doesn't want them to get corrupted.

"But the wicked ones, the cruel, that you are praying to die, will stay and they will not die. So, you should understand that what has happened to our brother and his family, is truly painful to everyone. But at the long)

The governor said no matter the wealth acquired, in death, nothing is taken along and advised that people live life of value, and be at peace with people they encounter daily. "So, it is for us to appreciate the mystery of life.

Governor Fubara also enjoined members of the Port Harcourt One Love Family to uphold and continue with those social impact endeavours that late Herbert Wigwe devoted his time to.

Chairman of the Port Harcourt One Love Family, Ambassador Idaere Gogo Ogan said the death of Herbert Wigwe has caused an unbearable and lamentable pain.

He however, noted that in their grief, God provided strength and they were honouring a man who was a pillar and a potent force in this Port Harcourt City and selflessly committed his time and resources to promote the state and offered enduring help to so many persons.

...SIM: Leading from the Front

"He who thinks he is leading and has no one following him is only taking a walk" - African Proverbs.

Leadership is about responsibility and service to the people. Just as Jesus admonished his disciples that the leader must be the servant. It is in serving that leadership is entrusted and in leading there must be corresponding followership.

Show a man with deafening multitude of followers, then I will show a man of passionate service. It is a two way concept. It is about empathy for others and commitment to their cause. Followership reciprocate the deep commitment to servanthood. It is a factor of innate attachment to the motivation from the servant-leader.

Even when the followership tends to be self motivated, some sense of value of the servant-leader keeps the bond of that relationship burning, without which it becomes mere rhetoric.

In other words a leader who feels both the joy and pain of his followers and often lend a hand of support always remains at the radar of the people following.

In addition, when the society is challenged, it takes exceptional qualities of the servant-leader to take the front roll in proffering solutions to such challenge by coordinating the people for collective action that will save the society.

Similarly, Sir Siminalayi Fubara is one man that leads by example and leads from the front. At the outbreak of COVID-19 with the attendant effect of lockdown, he became a succour to many, not only in his LGA of Opobo/Nkoro but all humanity at his reach. He demonstrated love, courage and commitment by mobilising both men and resources to assist humanity overcome that challenge. That is leadership at display.

As a leader in the front, many followed. Also at a time, his party, the PDP was almost completely deserted in his LGA, he stood firm rebuilding along with men and women of faith. Today, both those that deserted and in other parties now take shelter comfortably under the umbrella in Opobo/Nkoro, which one man stood firm to safeguard. In all these, he neither takes credit or boast about, but in his humble nature, he calls the effort team spirit for the good of humanity.

Today, the SIM's servant-leader bug has caught up with many bigwigs in other political parties across the state thus making them leave their parties in droves to join him in the PDP.

How else, do we measure a leader of immense repute with followership across all shades and leanings? Sir Siminalayi Fubara holds the ace and has demonstrated uncommon capacity to bring people together. He has gone to them with one striking message. That message is "We have seen the harvest of development in our dear state, it is time for Consolidation of the New Rivers Vision". And as it is, all have agreed to join this crusade of consolidation for advancement of the frontiers of growth and development in Rivers State.

It is on that strength that we enjoin you not to be left out, but see Sir Siminalayi Fubara's election as governor of Rivers State on March 11, 2023 as a great opportunity to advance the cause of Rivers people for shared prosperity and elevation in the comity of states in Nigeria.

So as you join us to vote PDP on that auspicious day of March 11, 2023, you shall be among the history makers in our dear Rivers State. Thank you for reading me. 23/10/2022
