Lecturers in the State-owned tertiary institutions have been enjoined to use their positions of trust to propagate the interest of the State.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, made the call today in Port Harcourt when he visited the Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele as part of the Campaign.
Pastor Nsirim said that all Stakeholders need to be part of changing the negative narrative about the state that has been propagated by some sections of the media.
"We need to frame the true narrative that befits Rivers State. We can not allow other people to continue to spread falsehood about us.
"I feel strongly that the University Community with its assemblage of opinion moulders, who are mentors to the upcoming generation need to be part of this campaign.
"Everyone living and doing business in Rivers State should know that this campaign is beyond partisanship. We have to come together to cub the capital flight that we have witnessed within the last few years.
"We have been robbed of what we are supposed to gain as a people because we have allowed partisanship and religious interests to divide us as a people. And our detractors are benefiting from it.
"God has placed us in positions of authority at our various levels of influence to begin to make the difference. Posterity will judge us harshly if we don't do anything now.
"Making that difference entails that whereever we are, we place Rivers State first," he added.
The Permanent Secretary enjoined all Rivers people to join hands with Governor Wike to pursue a development agenda that will be beneficial to all.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele commended the Ministry of Information and Communications for the campaign.
"This campaign is apt and the time for it is now. We will join you in this campaign and make sure Rivers State takes its pride of place in the nation," he said.
Professor Ndimele stated unequivocally that Rivers State is very safe and commended Governor Wike's efforts in the development of the state.
