🇳🇬 NEW INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE: WHAT NIGERIANS SHOULD KNOW
Nigeria has a new police boss.
President Bola Tinubu recently appointed Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, following the exit of Kayode Egbetokun.
Here’s a simple breakdown of what this means 👇
👮♂️ Who is Tunji Disu?
IGP Disu is not new to policing. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 and has served for over 30 years in different capacities across the country.
Some key positions he has held: • Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos
• Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT)
• Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the FCT (Abuja)
• Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force CID
He is known for intelligence-led operations and community-focused policing strategies.
🎓 Education & Training
He holds degrees in education, criminology, security studies, and public administration, along with professional training in investigation and leadership both locally and internationally.
🗣️ What Has He Promised?
Since taking office, the new IGP has emphasized:
✔️ Ending impunity within the force
✔️ Improving discipline and professionalism
✔️ Strengthening public trust
✔️ Boosting officers’ welfare and morale
✔️ Encouraging citizen-focused policing
He described the appointment as humbling and pledged commitment to national security.
💬 What Are Nigerians Saying?
Like most major appointments, reactions are mixed.
👍 Supporters Say:
• He has deep field experience.
• He understands intelligence operations.
• He may bring reforms and better discipline.
• His leadership style could improve public confidence in policing.
🤔 Critics Raise Concerns:
• Questions about the timing of the appointment.
• Concerns about how it affects senior officers close to retirement.
• Some believe leadership change alone may not solve long-standing issues like funding, logistics, and misconduct.
⚖️ So, Was the Appointment Right or Wrong?
There is no single answer.
Those in support believe his experience and reform agenda make him a strong choice.
Others argue that real change will depend not just on leadership but on systemic reforms, proper funding, accountability systems, and political will.
At the end of the day, Nigerians will judge this appointment by results — improved security, better police conduct, and stronger community trust.
🇳🇬 Security remains one of the biggest issues in our country today. Leadership changes are important, but performance will matter more.
What are your thoughts — do you think this appointment will bring positive change to the Nigeria Police Force?

🇳🇬 117 Former Insurgents Graduate From Rehabilitation Programme
A total of 117 repentant insurgents from Borno State have reportedly completed Nigeria’s Disarmament, Rehabilitation and Reintegration programme under Operation Safe Corridor.
According to a statement credited to the Director of Defence Information, the graduation was announced during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Defence Headquarters at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre.
The meeting focused on finalising arrangements for transferring the rehabilitated individuals to federal and state authorities for reintegration into society.
Operation Safe Corridor is a Federal Government initiative designed to deradicalise and rehabilitate former fighters who voluntarily surrender, particularly from insurgency-hit areas like Borno State.
The programme reportedly includes psychological counselling, religious reorientation, vocational training and other reintegration support.
While the government views the programme as a non-kinetic approach to ending insurgency, many Nigerians continue to express mixed reactions — especially communities that were directly affected by the crisis.
Issues of justice, security monitoring, and community acceptance remain part of the national conversation.
What are your thoughts on this approach — is rehabilitation the right path toward lasting peace?
🇳🇬 WHAT IS REALLY TRENDING ABOUT THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT RIGHT NOW? (22 FEBRUARY 2026 UPDATE)
There are several major conversations happening across the country today about policies, security, and the economy. Here is a full breakdown in simple terms:
1️⃣ Oil Revenue Reform: A Big Shift in Government Policy
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has introduced a major change in how Nigeria’s oil and gas money is handled.
Under the new directive, all oil and gas revenues must now go directly into the Federation Account. Previously, agencies like the Nigerian National Petroleum Company retained portions before remittance.
Why this matters:
It could increase transparency.
States and local governments may receive more consistent allocations.
It strengthens federal oversight of national revenue.
Many Nigerians see this as an attempt to block leakages and improve accountability in how public funds are shared.
2️⃣ Security Concerns Remain a Major Issue
Security challenges are still dominating national discussions. Recent attacks in parts of northern Nigeria have raised concerns about the safety of communities.
Reports from Zamfara State and other areas highlight continued bandit activity. Citizens are calling for stronger security strategies and faster government response to protect lives and property.
Security remains one of the most sensitive and closely watched issues in the country right now.
3️⃣ Digital Privacy & Investigation into Foreign Companies
The Federal Government has opened an investigation into online marketplace Temu over concerns about data protection and how Nigerians’ personal information is handled.
This signals a growing focus on:
Data security
Consumer protection
Stronger digital regulation
As more Nigerians shop and transact online, digital privacy is becoming a serious policy discussion.
4️⃣ Government Borrowing & Bond Market Activity
The Nigerian Debt Management Office is set to auction a large volume of government bonds.
This move is connected to:
Budget financing
Managing national debt
Stabilizing government spending
Economic analysts are watching closely to see how this affects inflation, interest rates, and investment.
5️⃣ Public Safety & Mining Concerns
A tragic mining incident in Plateau State has also sparked debate about regulatory enforcement and safety compliance.
Many citizens are asking:
Are safety standards being properly monitored?
Are companies following environmental and worker protection laws?
Is the government doing enough inspections?
🇳🇬 The Bigger Picture
Across Nigeria, the main trending conversations today revolve around:
✔️ Economic transparency
✔️ Revenue management
✔️ National security
✔️ Digital regulation
✔️ Government accountability
These issues directly affect everyday Nigerians — from fuel prices to internet privacy, from state allocations to community safety.
📢 What are your thoughts on these developments?
Do you believe the new reforms will make a real difference?
