Nnamdi Kanu Opens Defence, Lists 23 Witnesses Including Wike, Sanwo-Olu, and Ex-Military Chiefs
Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has decided to open his defence, marking a significant development in his long-running trial. This decision comes shortly after protests in various parts of Abuja, led by Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, who called for Kanu’s release.
Previously, Kanu had filed a motion challenging the court’s jurisdiction. However, in a new application submitted on Tuesday, October 21, he notified Justice James Omotosho of his readiness to defend himself.
He referenced a prior court order that instructed him to commence his defence on October 24, 2025.
In his defence, Kanu has listed 23 witnesses, including prominent figures such as Wike, Sanwo-Olu, and several ex-military chiefs.
