The importance or positive impact of Information technology in our present world is a global phenomenon that is glaring and cannot be misunderstood. IT is one of the most lucrative professions today as the world depends on it. As a matter of fact, it has been predicted that there is no technology in the world that will not be ICT based. We can say that the whole world will continue to depend on information technology for survival. Consequently, the continuous training of IT professionals is important for the survival of the world system for sustainable business or industrial development. It is on this ground I commend CPN for her continuous encouragement of young Nigerians in the profession and training them at the same time to advance in it. Let me encourage the inductees therefore to see beyond the knowledge they have at this level, use the platform CPN has provided to actualize their professional dreams by registering for the Computer professional examination 2018 diet (CLC, CFC, CAE, CPC)
However, if the world revolves around information technology, it is revolving around the IT professionals, which affords them the opportunity to contribute their quota to the society positively and receive good reward for their contributions monetarily and otherwise. There are four categories of IT professional impact for national development and societal relevance.
1. Academics. The people in the academic environments are privileged to help in upholding standards of education and determining the quality of professionals that are produced in every nation. These are professionals who are good in studying principles for building sound professionals. This is the reason why must academicians are not business’ solution oriented. This class of people should immediately further their education beyond the first degree
2. Expertise and Skill: these set of IT professionals who are skillful to transform the classroom principles into business solutions. This is where you have the designers, programmers, database administrators, software engineers, among others. You must start now to go extra mile, spend some sleepless nights on research, spend some money on materials and not clothes in order to distinguish yourself.
3. Intrepreneurship: intrepreneurs are business managers, innovative for business sustenance and profit making. They mostly offer solutions to the problems of the business owners and employees at the same time. These set of professionals are technical but also have good managerial and entrepreneurial support. However, IT expertise and tactical managerial abilities will place one on this platform.
4. Entrepreneurship: these are professionals that are technically and conceptually skilled. They are able to drive their skill beyond the average because they can identify problems in the society which they think they have solution for through their profession. This crop of IT professionals are not just practicing to earn a living but to create jobs for others and provide solutions like the world IT giants.
Permit me to make this exertion that
“A good education for relevance in 21st century’s society must not only be certificate oriented but business’ solution driven and societal development or transformation focused to produce Intrepreneurs and entrepreneurs, the business evolvers or initiators.”
The future is before you all with a level play ground or opportunities to make your contributions. Don’t forget that your contribution determines your rewards or gains in the profession. Make up your minds now especially if you already know your professional tendencies according to the points mentioned above.
