Ember glared at her reflection in the mirror, her eyes narrowing at the sight of her perfectly coiffed hair and flawless complexion. She hated days like this, when her family's expectations felt suffocating. Her mother, the matriarch of the witchy clan, would be hosting a family gathering tonight, and Ember knew she'd be expected to play the role of the perfect daughter.

With a flick of her wrist, Ember's hair suddenly turned a bright shade of pink, and her eyes sparkled with mischief. Ah, that was more like it. She grinned, feeling a thrill of satisfaction as she imagined her family's reactions to her new look.

As she made her way downstairs, Ember's siblings, Rowan and Hazel, looked up from their breakfast, their faces a picture of concern. "Ember, what's with your hair?" Rowan asked, her voice laced with disapproval.

Ember shrugged, trying to look nonchalant. "Just a little something I'm trying out."

Her mother, Aurora, walked into the room, her eyes scanning the space with a practiced air of calm. "Good morning, everyone. I trust you're all ready for tonight's gathering?"

Ember's grin grew wider as she thought about the chaos she had planned. Oh, she was more than ready.
