Madrid, 2011.
Real Madrid met Barcelona again. This time, it was one way ticket to Wembley for the Champions league final on the line.
Prime El Clasico. Dance of the immortals. Twenty-two of the best players on the planet.
Both teams were stacked to the nines, but the world knew that there were just two majors, the kings of Europe. They always reigned supreme in these clashes.
Tonight, though. Cristiano Ronaldo had to sit back and watch.
It was more of an equal game on both sides from the beginning, with close calls and big chances, but the first c***k in Barcelona's armour materialized when Pinto was given a red card right on the halftime mark. Against prime Los Blancos, that is quite literally sûicide. For all other teams but one.
"Everyone is afraid of Madrid, but Madrid is afraid of Barcelona.", Theirry Henry once said.
This was because of the presence of an otherworldly being on the pitch by the name of Lionel Messi.
After plaguing Real Madrid for fifteen minutes into the second half, Pepe finally fell for Barcelona's trap and got a red card in the 61st minute.
From then on, it was the Lionel Messi show.
After scoring his first in the 76th minute, he took the ball around the half way line from Sergio Busquets, left some of your favorite defenders in the dust and put the nail the white coffin.
Bernabeu? Silence. Ronaldo? Frustrated.
Europe might belong to Madrid.
Undeniably right, but Madrid belongs to Messi
