πΎ Understanding Soil pH (The Key to Healthy Crops)
Many farmers overlook soil pH, but itβs one of the biggest factors that determine whether your crops will thrive or struggle.
π± What is Soil pH?
Itβs a measure of how acidic or alkaline your soil is.
0β6.9 = Acidic soil
7 = Neutral
7.1β14 = Alkaline soil
π§ͺ Why Soil pH Matters:
It determines how well crops absorb nutrients
Low pH can lock nutrients in the soil
High pH can reduce nutrient availability
Correct pH = stronger roots, healthier plants, better yields
π Ideal pH Ranges for Common Crops:
Maize: 5.5 β 7.0
Vegetables: 6.0 β 7.0
Cassava: 5.5 β 7.5
Rice: 5.0 β 6.5
You can adjust acidic soils with lime, and alkaline soils with sulfur or organic matter.
