OCTOBER 11, THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD.

The International Day of the Girl Child is an annual and internationally recognized observance on October 11 that seeks to empower girls and help amplify their voices. This day acknowledges the importance and great potential of adolescent girls by advocating for bigger, better and more opportunities for them. October 11 is designated to create solutions to gender based challenges that adolescent girls face around the world some of which include: Discrimination, Violence, Child marriages, Inadequate learning opportunities and so on.

That being said, here is why the International Day of the Girl Child is Significant:

1. It helps to empower girls.
2. It helps in the process of eliminating gender based issues and other barriers the girl child faces.
3. It advocates for the right of the girl child.
4. When these girls are empowered they grow to become empowered women.
All in all, the International Day of the Girl child focuses on creating awareness about the problems and challenges faced by girls which are an impediment to them and is aimed at improving their well-being and helping these girls attain a better quality of life.

A girl child is a female child.

WHAT DOES A GIRL CHILD NEED?

• She child needs a good education.
• She needs to be provided for.
• She needs to be mentored and taught proper values that will improve her self -worth.
• She needs to be cared for, cherished, and loved.
• She needs to be affirmed repeatedly that she is priceless, invaluable and beautiful.
• She needs to be protected and not violated.
• She needs to be sensitized about s*x and molestation.
