China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI), launched by President Xi Jinping at the 25th SCO Summit in Tianjin, aims to reshape global cooperation by promoting fairness, inclusivity, and results-driven multilateralism. Emphasizing sovereign equality, international law, and a people-centered approach, the GGI seeks to empower the Global South while upholding the UN Charter. Nigeria is actively engaging with the GGI to advance its national interests, with President Bola Tinubu’s attendance at the 9th FOCAC in Beijing elevating Nigeria-China ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, speaking at an NIIA forum, highlighted Nigeria’s strategic autonomy and growing global influence, noting the GGI’s potential to support Nigeria’s bid for a UN Security Council seat. The initiative offers Nigeria economic opportunities in infrastructure, healthcare, and agriculture through technology transfers and climate-friendly financing. By aligning with the GGI, Nigeria can enhance its global voice, foster South-South cooperation, and redefine its role in a multipolar world.

Chiamaka Nnadozie, Super Falcons goalkeeper, was named the fourth-best female goalkeeper for the 2024/25 season at the inaugural 2025 Yachine award during the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris. The 24-year-old Nigerian, the first African nominated, trailed England’s Hannah Hampton, Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger, and Spain’s Cata Coll, but ranked above Daphne van Domselaar. Nnadozie’s standout performance was at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where she kept four clean sheets in six matches, earned her the tournament’s best goalkeeper title. She has also won CAF’s women’s goalkeeper award twice. Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu was also outranked by England’s Sabrina Wiegman for the best coach award.
