History Man
See the closeness in the two names Akirika and Okirika is a historical pointer and suggestive that there could be in fact a line to the Okirika in Rivers state. Since time out of memory human being migrate for different reason. In this modern time people migrate due to political, economic, educational and ambassadorial reason in the days of old economic and desire for territorial acquisition formed, the chief reason for migration. However in many case the original settlers depending on the circumstances tired to retained their ancestral name or with little modifications to reflect their new environment and circumstances. Hence, it would appears that Akirika was derived from Okirika perhaps to reflect NDOKI DIALECT of IBO language, through Okirika where they migrated is an amphibious community with finishing as primary occupation.
The Eze of Akirika ukwu is HRH Samuel ikechi nwosu, the Eze of Akirika NTA is HRH Abraham nna deokere. While the Eze of Akirika OBU is HRH Eze Nwanbara. Here it is obvious that the advantage usually a derived through collection strength and unity has given way to autonomy. Although in the primordial composition of Akirika, Akirika ukwu and Akirika OBU appeared to have descended from common origin or ancestor while Akirika NTA present a somewhat different lineage. However they all claimed to have originally migrated from Okirika in Rivers state. The oral history of the Akirikas has it that they migrated from Okirika. Spent reasonable length of time at the southern side of IMO River Valley and afterwards crossed over to their present abode. Nevertheless, the oral tradition of Azumini and mkpukpule has it than the founder of Akirika migrated from mkpukpule being one of the children or descendants of kwokwo Eze.
AKIRIKA is a community that comprises of three communities in one. The communities are listed here Akirika ukwu, Akirika NTA , Akirika OBU... These three communities in the olden days used to be ikwu-iri - A to clan. With Azumini as the headquarter of the clan. This was the situation until another clan was created independent of ikwu-iri- Ato called Umuigbeachara. The new clan now comprises only the three sisters communities, Akirika-ukwu, Akirika NTA, Akirika OBU. Consequently, father autonomy creation by the Abia state government has established autonomy for each of the three, communities somehow it appear that autonomy is fast losing it meaning relevance and essences. If a kindred that is less than, 200 peoples in given autonomy it leaves much to be desired. These three sister communities with common ancestry origin and languages affinity are today under three different Royal Highness perhaps for economic and political reason.
