The real function of a record label in the music industry is to open doors for unsigned & independent artists to submit their ep or album projects while at the same time assist the artist financially to promote, market & distribute their ep & album projects nationwide. Haven discovered the artist to work with, the label might not be interested in the artist single, ep or album. Now the label can reproduce another single, ep or album either with the same song or a fresh new song. This will take us to the question: who owns the master? If the recording label re-produce the single, ep or album, they own the master & not the song. So in this regard the recording company receive more percentage. But in the case, where the artist single, ep or album is accepted by the label without any corrections then the artist own the master & earn more percentage.

Dear Unsigned Artist, there is so many things wrong about the music industry here in Nigeria. Firstly, before we clear up the trash, we would like you to understand that there are two ways to operate in the music industry,

Dear Unsigned Artist, we discovered you have always been falling victims in the hands of those who believe the industry is their fathers property. They feel they can do whatsoever they like and go scott free. But in the real sense of it, they lack the indepth knowledge and the managerial skills of the music business.

Dear Unsigned Artist, in the international music industry, they operate a recording company and recording label. They both have the same objective of selling album but the business structure and management operations is different. For instance, when a recording company sign artist, they organize a talent hunt to discovered the artists of their choice. Thereafter they offer the artists for four years contract agreement with packages such as a car, apartment, feeding allowance, wardrope allowance and upfront royalty payment of cash worth million of dollar. The reason why recording company provide every artist they sign such packages, is simply because they do not want the artist to interfare during when they start planning, production, promotion, marketing and distribution of the artist album project.

Dear Unsigned Artist, in the case of a recording label, their major responsibility is to financially assist unsigned and independent artist to promote their single, EP or album project. A recording label sign two years contract and work with artist in two ways; either they open doors for unsigned artist to submit their CDs and get the artist sign while they're responsible for financing the music project or they sign you as an independent artist who self finance his or her album project but need a recording label to promote, market or release the EP or album. If a recording label so desire to operate like a recording company then they're to provide the artist with the above packages a recording label provide their artist but this time around under a special agreement with the artist to make instalmental refund after album sales while they share the profit base on percentage. This agreement is ok but not all the artist will be willing to enter such kind of agreement. So therefore, is not by force but by choice.

Dear Unsigned Artist, its very unfortunate that back here in Nigeria, the only music business we practice is a recording label yet the way we operate is below standard which does not conform with the international standard of operation.

Dear Unsigned Artist, am sorry to say that Nigeria recording label owners have lost focus and the direction of the music business. They always have one problem or the other with every artist they sign simply because they lack the knowledge and managerial skills to work with every artist they sign either as unsigned or independent artist. Untill they come to realized that they cant categories a fresher, independent & unsigned artist on the same level in the sense that a fresher are discovered by recording company why unsigned & independent artist has the cash to finance his or her music project while fresher artist dont have the cash to finance his or her music project. An fresher artist need the assistant of a recording company to discovered, produced, promote, market and distribute is or her music while an independent and unsigned artist need a recording label to promote, market while they contract the distribution of the artist music project. The reverse is the case here in Nigeria simply because when a recording label sign an unsiged artist, they will enslave, defraud, cheat and extort from the artist. If they also sign an independent artist, they will tell the artist that his or her album didn't meet up the standard of music project they accept and go ahead to turn down the artist music project submitted and when they eventually produce another fresh EP or album for the artist they claim to be the artist God that without them the artist cant blow forgeting the fact that if the artist is not good the album can not blow.

Dear Artist, sincerely speaking, if something is not done to savage the situation by redirecting the functions of record labels in the music industry, trust me the beauty of music will fade away in the thin air hence the establishment of NAAS REKORDZ.

Frankly speaking, the reverse is the case, as these recording labels operations is rather confusing & on the wrong direction because millions of talented young upcoming artists are churning out new single, album & EP on a daily basis while they go about signing just one artist for 4years leaving this young artists to self finance the production, promotion, marketing & distribution of their song, EP or album. Sincerely speaking, if something is not done to savage the situation by redirecting the functions of record labels in the music industry, trust me the beauty of music will fade away in the thin air hence the establishment of NAAS REKORDZ.
