The first unbelievable historical facts about the FIFA world cup is the Stolen Trophy. In 1966, the original Jules Rimet trophy was stolen in London prior to the tournament. It was miraculously recovered days later by a dog named Pickles. It was stolen again in 1983 and it's believed to have been melted down.

The second unbelievable fact is the Long Sea Voyage. The 1930 tournament in Uruguay required lengthy sea journeys. The SS Conte Verde sailed from Italy, picking up players from France, Belgium, and Brazil, with the FIFA president on board bringing the trophy in his suitcase. Players had to run on the ship's decks to stay fit.

The third is that India qualified for the 1950 World Cup but withdrew from the tournament after FIFA refused to let them play barefoot.

The fourth is in 1938, Italy’s Giuseppe Meazza scored a penalty against Brazil while his shorts fell down, effectively distracting the goalkeeper.
