Army Commends Actor Osita Iheme For Promoting Unity, Peace
The Nigerian Army has commended Nollywood actor Osita Iheme, also known as Pawpaw, for his efforts in fostering unity, understanding, and peaceful coexistence across different groups in the country.
In a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, on Friday, Iheme was lauded for his peaceful advocacy and global recognition.
The statement partly reads: "Mazi Osita Iheme MFR also known as Pawpaw, a peaceful, accomplished and globally celebrated Nigerian has been an advocate for unity, peace and stability in Nigeria over the years.
"He has been actively engaging with various platforms to promote unity and understanding among different groups in the country. His efforts have been focused on fostering dialogue and finding common ground for the betterment of all Nigerians.
"During the 2023 general election, Mazi Osita Iheme was seen engaging with various media personalities, including those associated with IPOB. His interactions were open, devoid of any misgiving and clearly aimed at understanding different perspectives and promoting peaceful coexistence.
"His willingness to engage with diverse voices demonstrates his commitment to inclusivity and understanding.
"Recently, Mazi Osita Iheme was invited by the Nigerian military to participate in a social media seminar in Aba, Abia State. His participation in the seminar was a reflection of his desire to contribute positively to the media landscape and promote responsible communication.
"His intention was to share his insights and promote constructive dialogue, in line with his advocacy for peace and stability in Nigeria."

UPDATE ON SOLDIERS ALLEGED OF THEFT AT DANGOTE REFINERY IN LAGOS
In line with Nigerian Army's (NA) commitment to upholding high standard of professionalism, integrity and discipline, the NA wishes to update the general public on the outcome of the investigation into the alleged theft of armoured cables at the Dangote Refinery premises on 14th April 2024, involving Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani.
Sequel to a thorough investigation conducted in collaboration with the management of the company, the two soldiers were found to have abandoned their duty post and to be in unauthorized possession of the materials. Subsequently, they were both charged for Failure to Perform Military Duties punishable under section 57, sub section (1) and Other Civil Offences punishable under section 114, sub section (1) of the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, the Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. They were summarily tried. During the trial, the evidence against them was presented and they were given the opportunity to present their cases and defend themselves, but were however found guilty of the charges levelled against them in accordance with military laws.
As a demonstration of NA's zero-tolerance for misconduct and criminality within its ranks, the two soldiers have been dismissed from the NA with immediate effect and handed over to relevant authorities for further prosecution.
This decisive action underscores the NA's resoluteness in maintaining its institutional integrity and reputation.
The NA reassures the general public of its dedication to upholding integrity, discipline and accountability at all levels. We remain resolute in our duty to protect and serve the nation with honor and dignity.
We urge the public to continue to support our efforts in safeguarding national security and promoting peace and stability across the nation.

Guinness World Record: Nigerians Cheer Onakoya As 58-Hour Chess Marathon Begins In New York
Nigerians abroad have come out to support renowned chess master, Tunde Onakoya, as he embarks on a mission to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.
Onakoya announced the commencement of the marathon via his X account with the caption, "Game time."
He also wrote, "We havenât even started yet and Nigerians are already trooping in to camp out with me."
Among those cheering Onakoya is Nigerian singer, Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold.
The event, which is underway at New York City's iconic Times Square, started at 10am on Wednesday, April 17, and is scheduled to end at 8pm on April 19.
Onakoya is set to engage in an intense chess marathon, aiming to play for 58 hours without a single defeat.
The current Guinness World Record, set by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway on November 11, 2018, stands at 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.

The Federal High Court in Lagos State has granted businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, a.k.a Cubana Chief Priest, N10m bail with two sureties in like sum.
The celebrity bar man had earlier pleaded not guilty to tampering and abusing the naira during his trial.

PDP Repsâ Caucus Meeting Ends In Commotion As Pro Wike Lawmakers Move To Give Damagun Vote Of Confidence Fails
The meeting of the Peopleâs Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the House of Representatives ended in commotion with the lawmakers sharply divided along the lines of those in support of the partyâs Acting National Chairman, Umar Damgun and those against his continued stay in office.
The meeting summoned by the leader of the Caucus and House minority leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda was held on Tuesday at House Committee Room 301, National Assembly Complex Abuja ahead of Thursdayâs National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.
However, the main agenda of the Pre-NEC meeting which was to pass vote of confidence on Damagun by lawmakers loyal to the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike could not sail through.
This was as a group of over 60 lawmakers under the auspices of Opposition lawmakers coalition maintained their ground that the acting chairman should resign and someone from the North-central zone take the position.
They also insisted on the expulsion of FCT minister Wike and any other politician involved in Anti-Party activities.
