Tragedy struck in Ghana’s Central Region after Nana Kwabena Okyere, the Mmratehene (sub-chief) of the Ayanfuri Traditional Area, reportedly d!ed from an accidental self-inflicted g¥nshot during a funeral ceremony on Friday, May 9, 2026.

According to police reports, the incident happened during the funeral rites of community elder Abusua Panyin Akwasi Kwateng in Ayanfuri, located in the Diaso District. The chief allegedly discharged a pump-action sh0tgun accidentally, sustaining a severe g¥nsh0t wound to the abdomen.

He was rushed to the Ayanfuri Pentecost Hospital for emergency treatment but was later pronounced d€ad.

His body has since been transferred to the Dunkwa-On-Offin Municipal Hospital mortuary as police continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
