AFRO FILM ALLIANCE AT AFRICA CELEBRATES 2025 SPOTLIGHTS LOW-BUDGET FILMMAKING AND AFRICAN STORYTELLING.

Afro Film Alliance (AFA) at Africa Celebrates 2025 brought together filmmakers, producers, and creative professionals for a focused dialogue on advancing African cinema. AFA was organized in partnership with Habeshaview.

The program opened with remarks by Mr. Svinurayi Gonera, followed by the Film Forum titled “How to Make a Movie with a Low Budget and Distribute It.” Moderated by Ms. Hannah Mariam Dereje, the panel featured Mr. Leul Shoaferaw, Mr. Tewodros Teshome, Mrs. Mahlet Solomon, Mr. Sewmehon Yismaw, Mrs. Tariro Washe, and Amb. Dr. Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, who shared practical insights on filmmaking and distribution.

Mrs. Heny Cuesta Mena of African descent from Colombia delivered a special speech on Black women filmmakers from the Shore, followed by the screening of the trailer for her short film, What Is My Name? 1821.

The AFA also featured the screening of ten selected short films, showcasing emerging talent from across Africa. These films were selected from over 115 films received from all over Africa and the Diaspora.

Closing remarks were delivered by Mrs. Tigist Kebede and Mr. Lexy Mojo Eyes, underscoring the event's role in strengthening collaboration and elevating African film on the global stage.

Africa Celebrates 2025 was packaged by Legendary Gold Limited in partnership with Afronova, in collaboration with the African Union Commission, UNECA, and the Embassies of Nigeria, Burundi, and Côte d'Ivoire, with additional support from the US and EU Missions to the AU and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Tourism. Official partners—Ethiopian Airlines, Skylight Hotel, DCT Entertainment, Kana TV, Oceanwave Group, and PG Records provided exceptional backing, helping to elevate Afro Film alliance into one of the most impact full engagements of Africa Celebrates 2025.
