Chinedu was sixteen, full of energy, and convinced he knew better than everyone else. His parents often warned him about staying out late, but he brushed them off. “I’m not a child anymore,” he would say, rolling his eyes.

At school, teachers admired his intelligence but worried about his attitude. He was sharp, witty, and quick to learn, but he hated rules. To Chinedu, rules were chains meant to hold him back. He wanted freedom, adventure, and the thrill of doing things his own way.

His father, Mr. Okafor, was a man of discipline. He believed in structure, responsibility, and respect. His mother, gentle but firm, often tried to mediate between father and son. But Chinedu’s stubbornness grew stronger with each passing day.

One Friday night, Chinedu’s friends invited him to a party across town. His parents told him to be home by 9 p.m. “It’s not safe out there,” his mother said softly. His father added, “If you come home late without telling us, you’ll sleep outside.”

But his father’s eyes were serious. “Try me.”

At the party, the music was loud, the laughter intoxicating, and for a while, Chinedu felt unstoppable. He danced, joked, and basked in the thrill of rebellion. Time slipped away, and before he knew it, the clock struck midnight.
