Someone was asked if he was a Christian, and he affirmed that he was. He was asked how he knew, and he began to list his positive attributes and all the good things he did. He said he was a Christian because he didn’t lie, or steal, or commit murder. He was respectful, and law abiding… All of these things are the civil things to do. They are moral. And a Christian should do these things as well; but they do not make you a Christian. Morality is what society says. It’s what your parents have taught you to do. It’s what is accepted around you, and what is expected of you. So what is moral to you may not be moral to the next person. Christianity is an essence. It is knowing God, honoring Him, and doing all you do with focus on Him. So regardless of where you are or who you’re relating with, the sense of good you have is fixed.
