This year, I completed my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. It’s a research-focused doctorate (PhD-equivalent here), separate from residency earned through coursework and a thesis.

It deepened my identity as a clinician, public health professional, and researcher. However, if i'm to be honest, I did it to “tick the box.” Residency remains far more rigorous and transformative.

Grateful for the opportunity to start and finish my academic endeavours.

Curious—what’s your take on this ongoing fellowship vs. PhD debate in medical academia?

It doesn't matter what the world sees and says about you. What matters most is what you see and say about yourself....

A thousand people can see you differently based on their own lenses. You can't let yourself be influenced or swayed by that.

Better still, let the one who made you influence how you think about yourself...
Internalise that. See yourself like that, and let that guide how you see and speak about yourself.

The world will follow your lead...

Would you let your child get sick just to build immunity? 🤒
Vaccines = safer path to strong protection.
Protect without suffering. That’s real strength.
