THE MOST IGNORED PART IN SINGING
"The tongue is a little member, yet it sets the whole course of nature on fire".... JAMES
In singing, a lot of people often ignore the use of the tongue as they sing. Some don't even know that it's the reason that they sound the way they do.
Tongue tension can cause your singing a lot of harm. Even the digastric muscle which is the enemy of your singing is connected to your tongue.
Now try putting your finger or thumb under your chin, then swallow spittle, you will feel a muscle come down touching your chin. That muscle is called, the digastric muscle. Whenever you sing and attempt the high notes, this muscle comes down and resists your voice. This is why some of you find it difficult at the high notes. This muscle must be disabled.
One way to do this is to stretch the root of your tongue. Because the tongue is connected to this muscle. You can stretch the root of your tongue by simply using a cloth in your hand to pull your tongue out as far as you can for a while and then releasing it.
Another problem that people encounter while singing is the position of their tongue. A high tongue will cause you singing problems. A flat tongue has a tendency to be pulled back in and produce a "swallowed tone" bringing your digastric muscle (the enemy of your singing into play)
There are three tongue positions that can get you into proper singing
1) The Open throat position: Not everyone likes this method, it involves sticking out your tongue as you sing especially in the high notes. I don't like the method myself ( when I am not a lizard 😂😂😂😂😂😂)
2) The Tip Touching the back of the bottom teeth: This position is one recommended by some vocal coaches but you will still find singers struggling with this position for example pronouncing the letter "t" while singing songs in this position could be difficult. I particularly use this in a special way to train people. You will find out how in my book.
3) The Position called the Recticular Vestibule : This one has the tongue further lower below the gum of the bottom teeth, but you need to learn how to use this position if you want to...
In my book you will learn how exactly to engage the tongue for singing with vocal exercises suitable to help anyone develop the tongue. There are other things about the tongue and how you can produce beautiful resonant frequencies with it in my book
