AFRICAN ICON IN REMEMBERANCE
"The children of the poor you failed to train will never let your children have peace."- Obafemi Awolowo
Chief Obafemi Awolowo was an important figure in the Nigeria Political history, from Western region of the British colony of Nigeria. He was born on 6th March, 1909. His political leadership in Egbe Omo Oduduwa birthed 'Action Group' party which led the region for several years before the first coup.
Awolowo became the premier of Western region on 1st Oct, 1954 under whose several pioneer developmental projects were executed amongst which were Industrial estates, the first TV station in Africa (even before France), free education progamme, etc and later become Federal commissioner for Finance under Gowon's military regime.
His legacies will forever endured, as most today's politicians leverage on his image. Awolowo's political philosophy is premised on African socialism and common good for all; this is evident in his unrelenting tendencies displayed in his campaign manifesto for the Northern Nigeria in 1979, which is education for the teeming Northern uneducated lot. He died on the 9th of May, 1987 - today marks thirty-three years of his departure.

The Missionary Sisters of Our Ladys of Apostle were the first group of religious women in Nigeria, arriving back in 1877. Almost 80 years later, in 1954 Our Ladys of Apostle school in Ijebu Ode was built and established by the Sisters.
