A person's character is not the same as their profession.

In time past, I used to equate where people work or their profession to how they would behave.
However, I have since been proven wrong. This realisation was borne out of my personal experiences overtime with people of different professions.

There are professional ethics to follow and live by as an employee which acts as a guide in our interactions with our internal and external customers, right?

When these ethics are circumvented with bad behaviour, then the person responsible should be held accountable. They just do not have principles, PERIOD!

The resultant effect of bad character could manifest in multiple folds for a business and the work environment as a whole. In other words, rather than a company hanging a framed photo of their values and culture mantra alone, they should go further by including work practices, behavioural evaluation systems, customer feedback, rewards for good behaviour to reinforce their organisational values for sustainability purposes.

A manager who is a bully has no moral standards. A banker who steals out of the money they are to keep for customers has zero personal ethics. An unfair judge in his pronouncements, a teacher who takes bribe from parents, a doctor who is morally decadent with their patients, same thing, and the list is endless...

People are who they are regardless of their profession. Some people are just badly behaved regardless. Only a few have principles and abide by ethics.

Therefore, when an organisation spots a principled person, they should treat them well to reinforce their good character, otherwise, such employees would disengage from a work environment that does not practice good work ethics and values.

It is a new year. Organisations should revisit their organisational culture and values by embedding initiatives and interventions that would build a workforce of reputable standards for their brand.

Dear employees,

If your salary expectations are very high, then you need to have matching competencies and experience for the job intended.

Stop asking for remuneration you don't deserve. Trust the process and be willing to develop to that stage where your skills and competencies would attract a high value.
