… As Commissioner Charges Education Stakeholders To Protect Learners, Safeguard Their Future

As part of its commitment to promoting safe, inclusive and conducive learning environments, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, organised a sensitisation programme for teachers and students in public secondary schools on sexual and gender-based violence, bullying, cultism and drug abuse.

The programme, which was held on Wednesday at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, brought together education stakeholders, government officials, teachers and students to raise awareness on the dangers of these social vices and to encourage positive values and responsible behaviour among young people.

Delivering the keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to ensuring that schools remain safe spaces where students can learn and thrive without fear of violence, intimidation or harmful influences. The Commissioner emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in addressing sexual and gender-based violence, bullying, cultism and drug abuse, noting that parents, teachers, communities and government agencies all have critical roles to play in safeguarding the future of young people.
“Education is not merely about acquiring academic knowledge." It is about nurturing responsible, confident, morally upright, and productive citizens,” the Commissioner stated.
