Infertility is inability of a couple to to get pregnant, after having unprotected s*x during ovulation for a period of twelve months or more. It could also be defined as inability to carry pregnancy for a full term.
Infertility may be primary, for someone who has never been pregnant in her life. It may also be secondary for a couple who had one or two children but are unable to conceive there after.
In the years past,we had thought that infertility was only a woman's problem. However we were wrong, today about 40% of infertility problems come from the men. We can not successfully attend to infertility challenges of a couple without involving the man.

CAUSES OF INFERTILITY
INFECTION
During one of my visits to Abuja in the year 2000,i met a lady working in the a big government hospital Laboratory who informed me of discovery of a new bacteria infection not know to man. She said new discoveries are made daily.
Introduction of oral contraceptives made s*x a free-for-all affairs. This particularly encouraged unprotected s*xual relationship. By implication,s*xually transmitted diseases are transferred amongst partners. Some of the infected persons have symptoms, while some have no symptoms at all. Year in year out those without symptoms live normal life without treatment.
The bacteria enters the woman's ge***al tract thereby causing a continual damage. Certain bacteria can affect the fallopian tubes adversely to the extent that conception will be impossible. Bacteria in the ge***al tract of a woman if in contact with the male's s***m may affect the shape, structure and the motility of the s***m adversely. The foregoing will surely preclude the woman from getting pregnant and may make her to experience premature menopause.
On the other hand the man who has certain bacteria infection, may affect his s***m adversely to the extent that he may not be able to impregnate any woman.
What can we do about infection? Why has it been one of the culprit in couples' search for pregnancy. Why is it difficult to get rid of bacteria infection?
I will try to answer these questions and others in my next series.
