X is introducing a new feature called About this account, which gives people more insight into user profiles. It will show details like the country an account is based in, how many times the username has been changed, the country where the account was originally created and whether it was set up through the web or an app store.

The feature was tested last month and is now appearing for more users, who have started sharing screenshots of it in action.

This update is similar to what other platforms already offer, such as Facebook’s Page transparency and Instagram’s About this account. According to Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, the goal is to help people confirm the authenticity of what they see on the platform.

For now, you can view your own information by tapping the Joined button on your profile. You may not be able to view these details on other accounts yet because the rollout is still in progress.

On your profile, you can choose to show either your country or your region or continent, with country selected by default. Bier has stated that privacy controls will be available and will be visible on your profile if you decide to use them. Accounts using a VPN may also show a note that says the listed location may not be accurate.
