The Speaker of the 31st LASULAWS Students’ Representative Council, Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Oluwatise, hosted the inaugural Press Conference of the council on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Moot Court, Faculty of Law, LASU.
The conference, themed “Beyond the Gavel: Strengthening Legislative Oversight in Democracies,” served as a strategic engagement aimed at promoting accountability, effective communication, and stronger interaction between the Council and the student body.
The event commenced with the legislative pledge led by the Speaker of the Council, Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Oluwatise, followed by the introduction of executives and members of the administration.
In his address, the Speaker reiterated the purpose of the conference and provided insights into proposed constitutional amendments and other legislative matters.
During the interactive Question-and-Answer session, LASU Life Editor-in-Chief, Jimoh Abdul-Lateef, alongside the platform’s Editor, Halimah Olawoyin, engaged the Speaker on issues relating to his administration and the Council’s activities.
Speaking on the administration’s achievements so far, the Speaker highlighted initiatives including the Joint Parliamentary Workshop with the Department of Mass Communication, the commemoration of 200 days in office — during which internship opportunities were facilitated for students — as well as a public hearing organised to address students’ concerns.
He also outlined aspirations he hopes to achieve before the end of his tenure, including the launch of the physical constitution and the presentation of awards to students who have contributed to the development of the faculty.
In his closing remarks, Rt. Hon. Oluwatise expressed pride in the administration’s achievements and appreciated members of his team, friends, executives, and supporters.
The conference concluded with further questions from attendees, ending as an engaging session that encouraged meaningful participation from students and stakeholders alike.
