When should we employ T-test for independent samples for data analysis?

There are certain conditions that must be met before employing this statistical tool. We employ this tool when the research due to one reason artificially dicotomized an interval variable into two levels ( low & high) to test the samples on the dependent variable of the study.

For example, in a research topic ' The influence of computer efficacy on online purchase intention among facebook users in Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria. In this topic, computer efficacy is the predictor ( IV) while online purchase intention is the criteria variable (DV)

The research can state a hypothesis of this nature ' Internet users High on computer efficacy will score low on the measures of online purchase intention than internet users low'. A hypothesis of this nature calls for T-test for independent samples to test and compare the sample means (low & high) on the dependent variable of the study, which is online purchase intention.
