During ART X Lagos 2025, the artists selected for the fifth iteration of Art Across Borders (AAB): Kudzanai Chiurai, Fatoumata Diabaté (), Edson Chagas (), Nicène Kossentini, Mário Macilau, and Camille Chedda (), took part in a mini-residency that unfolded across Lagos.

Over several days, they moved through studios, museums, and everyday spaces, engaging the city as both context and collaborator. Through conversation and encounters, they navigated the city and shared reflections on place, perception, and belonging in line with the AAB exhibition theme, “We Are Where We Think, (We Are).”

With visits to cultural institutions like Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization, one-on-one studio engagements with legendary artist, Pa Bruce Onobrakpeya, open market explorations and more, the mini-residency positioned our Lagos as a site of learning and imagination.

At its core, Art Across Borders is a movement — across regions, ideas, and lived realities — where artists reclaim place, assert agency, and collectively imagine futures yet to be formed.

From our earliest days, we set out to do something bold: to place Lagos firmly on the global arts and culture calendar, and to build lasting bridges between Nigeria, Africa, and the world.

A decade in, we are still celebrating that vision and everything it has grown into.

What began as conviction and imagination has become an institution: one that has helped shape Nigeria’s creative ecosystem, influenced global cultural conversations, and redefined what is possible for African creativity at scale.

As reflected by voices from across the world’s leading platforms, ART X Lagos has been more than an art fair. It’s been a meeting point, a catalyst, and a cultural force sustained by a community that believes in the power of art to move cities, histories, and futures forward.

A decade in, the dream is not only alive - it is still unfolding.
