Peopleware: may be described as the various people working with the computer, this ranges from professional users such as programmers, system analyst to operational users e.g data entry, operations. A user may also be anybody who makes use of the computer e.g computer manager, educators, engineers, graphic artists, medical doctors, book publishers etc.

Application areas of computer
Education: computer have proved to be very valuable in the aspect of education. It helps teachers or lecturers to teach subject/ courses, keep students records and maintaining database of students.

Government: in developed countries, government agencies are (especially the military) the largest users of mainframe and supercomputers. Government officials also use computer to screen passengers at airports to eradicate drug and human trafficking.

Sport: computerized machines are now used for fitness training, checking of previous incidence (VAR in football) in event that lead to goal, scoreline board etc.

Hospitals: computer is used to store information about patients, electronic record keeping has been proven to be faster in terms of information retrieval than manual record keeping system, it's also used. For scanning patients and carrying out ultrasound.

Banking: computer is used for interbank transactions. Banks also use it to keep customer records, employee records, prepare customers' statements of account. Customer can also withdraw money, check their balance and pay their bills on the ATM at their convenient time rather than queuing up for several hours in the banking hall.

Socialization: computer is the fastest agent of socialization, people use internet as a medium to make friends, chat with their friends in other part of the world and also do business with one another.

Characteristics of computer system
Security: Data stored in computer are completely secured which means an unwanted person can be prevented from gaining access to it, with the use of password and turbo keys, this is possible.

Quality: computer guarantee quality jobs.

Speed: computer can do in a minute what would have taken several people several hours to do manually.

Less fatigue: one hardly gets tired when operating a computer unlike other machine that gets one tired quite easily.

Accuracy: computer guarantees accuracy with every job done with it.

Definition of terms:
System: may be described as an assembly of parts working together as an organised whole or body; parts are the different components that makeup the system e.g a car consist of three major parts; the body (this is the part we can see and touch), the engine (that is the hidden part), and the driver, a car is useless without engine and it is still useless if a car has engine but no driver to move it.

Computer: may be described as an electronic device which accepts, stores, and process data following a set of instructions to provide an accurate and efficient output as information for the benefits of the user. In other words; computer can be defined as a machine which accepts data from output device (keyboard), performs arithmetical and logical operations with internally stored program and transfer the processed result to an output device (monitor or printer). Also, it can be defined as electronic device which uses list of instructions called program to perform calculation or to store, manipulate and retrieve data or information. In a simple definition; it can be defined as an electronic device that processes data.

3. Peopleware

1. Hardware: may be defined as the physical machine itself, these includes all different physical units and devices that mark-up the parts, which can be seen and touch. In other words, is the physical parts of the computer which comprises output and system unit.

Example of computer hardware
Monitor: is a part of the computer that shows the result of data being processed.

Keyboard is an input device which may be defined as mechanical or electromechanical device that contain set of instructions or data, like that of a typewriter keyboard, use to input data or messages into the computer.

Mouse:is a device used to control the characters of the keyboard

Printer: is a machine used for obtaining printed output known as hard copy
Scanner: is an input device which works with the software. It is used to input data or information and pictures into computer.

Joystick: is an input device used for entering certain instruction into the computer or playing computer games.
Card reader: is an input device that can read information contained in the punched cards

Light pen: is an electronic pen that can be used to enter input on a display screen.
