Twenty-five years ago, Onyeka Onwenu, a renowned Nigerian musician, took a bold stand against her former employer, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). The issue began when NTA 2 Channel 5 used her song "Iyogogo" from her album _Onyeka!_ in their station idents without her permission. To make matters worse, they refused to pay royalties for the track.

Onyeka's response was swift and decisive. After being blacklisted by NTA's Director-General, Ben Murray-Bruce, she embarked on a hunger strike outside the station's premises. Her protest garnered widespread support from fellow artists, including Charly Boy, who criticized Nigeria's reluctance to pay royalties for songs broadcast on television and radio.

The protest, which lasted for six days, ended with Onyeka and NTA reaching an agreement on royalty payments. Although NTA initially denied barring Onyeka from their channels, they eventually agreed to settle the issue amicably.

Onyeka's bravery and determination paved the way for future generations of artists to fight for their rights. Her legacy continues to inspire and empower Nigerian musicians, and her impact on the music industry remains unparalleled.
