Do you feel burning in your chest or throat after eating a spicy meal? 🔥
While occasional heartburn is normal, if it occurs more than twice a week, it could be gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD).
If it happens regularly and worsens over time, GORD can cause stomach ulcers or scarring in your oesophagus (food pipe).
The symptoms can include:
❤️🔥 heartburn (indigestion) and chest discomfort
❤️🔥 regurgitation (stomach acid and contents come up into your throat and mouth)
❤️🔥 swallowing difficulties (feels like a lump in your throat when eating solid food)
❤️🔥 persistent dry cough
❤️🔥 bloating and burping
❤️🔥 bad breath
❤️🔥 hoarse voice.
If you often have these, we recommend you see your doctor. Usually it can be managed with medication and lifestyle changes.
Sometimes GORD symptoms can be similar to those of a heart attack. If you ever experience chest pain that lasts for longer than a few minutes with nausea, sweating, jaw. and arm pain, and dizziness, call 000 immediately. ☎️
