An Abuja High Court has sentenced four men to death by hanging for their involvement in the June 5, 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

The court found the convicts guilty on multiple charges, including terrorism, terrorism financing, kidnapping, hostage-taking, and the unlawful possession and use of explosives. The attack, which occurred during a Sunday Mass, shocked the nation and left dozens of worshippers dead and many others injured.

Delivering judgment, the court held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt against the four defendants.

The verdict marks a significant development in the long-running quest for justice for the victims and their families, nearly four years after the tragedy.
