A rare photograph of the late President Muhammadu Buhari during his younger years. Long before he became Nigeria’s military Head of State and later a democratically elected president, this image captured him at the beginning of a journey that would leave a lasting mark on the nation’s history. He certainly had a striking appearance in his youth.

Today, 13 July, marks exactly one year since the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari.

A rare photograph of Ali Bin Alua seated in the passenger seat of his 1923 Ford Model T. Widely regarded as the first person to own a motor car in Kano, Bin Alua was a trans Saharan merchant from Libya who settled in Kano in 1878. He is also credited with building the city’s first storey building, leaving a lasting legacy in Kano’s commercial and architectural history.
