𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝟱: 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦

Mercy had rehearsed the confession a thousand times in her head, but when the moment finally came, no words felt safe enough.

Her husband sat across from her that night, concern written all over his face. He had noticed the distance for months—the quiet tears, the restless sleep, the way her smile never quite reached her eyes. He reached for her hand.

“Mercy,” he said softly, “tell me the truth. What’s really going on?”

Her lips trembled. Silence stretched between them like a fragile glass about to shatter.

“I’m still in love with him,” she whispered.

The words fell like a gunshot.

“With Daniel,” she continued, tears streaming freely now. “I tried to stop it. I tried to bury it. But it never left.”

Her husband slowly withdrew his hand, as though touching her now burned.

Mercy’s voice broke as she forced herself to say the part she feared most.
“Before his wedding… we made a mistake. We spent one night together.”

The room went numb.

Her husband didn’t shout. He didn’t throw anything. He simply stared at her, eyes hollow, as if something inside him had died quietly.

“So while I was planning a future with you,” he said at last, his voice shaking, “you were still holding on to your past.”

“I was confused,” Mercy cried, sliding off the couch to her knees. “I swear it didn’t mean I don’t love you. I was weak. Please… forgive me. I’ll do anything. Anything.”

She clung to his legs, sobbing, begging him not to leave.

But he gently pulled away.

“You didn’t just betray me,” he said. “You made me feel like I was never enough. Like I was a replacement. A second choice.”

He stood up, tears finally escaping his eyes.

“I deserve to be loved fully,” he continued. “And you can’t give me that.”

That night, he packed a bag and walked out—not in anger, but in unbearable pain. The door closed softly behind him, but the sound echoed in Mercy’s heart like a lifetime sentence.

Days turned into weeks.

Her calls went unanswered. Her messages unread. The marriage she fought so hard to keep slipped through her fingers, just like Daniel had.

And Daniel…

Daniel was gone for good.

Married. Happy. Untouchable.

Mercy watched his life from afar—his success, his peace, the woman who now stood proudly beside him. The man she once had, the man who paid her school fees, believed in her dreams, and loved her without conditions… was no longer hers.

Weeks later, Daniel proposed to Ada.

She said yes.

On the wedding day, just as vows were about to be exchanged—

Mercy appeared.

She screamed his name. She cried. She begged.

Daniel didn’t turn.
