*Water Management in Aquaculture*
Without a doubt, water management in fishery is a complex topic.
But I will try my possible best to summarize it in a way that you will easily understand it.
However, no matter how well I try to summarize, this topic can not be justifiably treated in a single post. Therefore, starting from today, I will be breaking down aspects of aquaculture water management in a couple of posts.
Arguably, the best skill you need to master as a fish farmer is how to manage your pond water so it stays cleans all days.
This is because water is the home of aquatic lives and their performance depends largely on how well you are able to manage their home.
In order to effectively maintain quality pond water, we need to first understand the properties of water to be managed.
But, let me first give you some reasons why it is very important that you master how to manage your pond water very well;
1. High Dissolved Oxygen: Fish just like other animals need oxygen to grow and if the oxygen is not enough, fish will struggle to grow and even in some cases dies. The rate of dissolved oxygen present in your pond is proportional to how well you can maintain quality water in your pond.
2. Low FCR: Feed Conversion Ratio can be understood as the rate at which your fish can convert feed consumed into flesh, i.e the amount of weight your fish can get from feed consume. The lower your FCR the better, and one best way to achieve low FCR is by maintain quality water in your pond.
3. Reduced Mortality: A dirty pond water is always associated with disease causing germs and if not quickly checked may lead to very high mortality in the pond. Best way to avoid this is to keep your water clean at all times.
4. High productivity: All round productivity includes having maximum output with least possible input, and one way this can be achieved is by making sure your fish have highly habitable home to grow and performs well. Off course their performance means more mone
Organic fertilizers are naturally available mineral sources that contain moderate amount of plant essential nutrients. They are capable of mitigating problems associated with synthetic fertilizers. They reduce the necessity of repeated application of synthetic fertilizers to maintain soil fertility. They gradually release nutrients into the soil solution and maintain nutrient balance for healthy growth of crop plants. They also act as an effective energy source of soil microbes which in turn improve soil structure and crop growth. Organic fertilizers are generally thought to be slow releasing fertilizers and they contain many trace elements. They are safer alternatives to chemical fertilizers. However, the improper use of organic fertilizers leads to overfertilization or nutrient deficiency in the soil. Hence, controlled release of organic fertilizers is an effective and advanced way to overcome these impacts and maintain sustainable agriculture yield.
