Prayer does not stand by itself - neither is it an end unto itself. Genuine prayer is actually a means of expressing FAITH. It is the faith the God "hears" in prayer and not the words of the prayer per se.
The faith is in God and (through) His Word. If the Word is absent in the words or if it is not presented in faith, the exercise you have performed is NOT prayer - just a religious soliloquy.
