Egalitarian Team Charges Southwest Governors to Fortify Amotekun, Urges Tinubu to Implement State Police Without Delay

Nigeria continues to face escalating insecurity, with communities across the nation grappling with kidnappings, violent attacks, and terror incidents. From the Kebbi schoolgirls abduction, the Niger Catholic School kidnapping, to the attack on a church in Kwara State, citizens are living in fear, and the safety of families, schools, and communities is under severe threat.

In light of these alarming developments, the EGALITARIAN TEAM calls on all Southwest Governors to take urgent action to protect lives and restore peace. The South West has long been a leader in community-driven security innovation through the Amotekun Corps, an initiative championed by the visionary leadership of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

The convener of the group, Egalitarian Segun Akinlabi , emphasized:

“The Southwest Governors should call for a security summit with our leaders across political and religious divides. They should empower Amotekun and local vigilantes, equipping them with at least AK-47s to tackle insurgency, kidnapping, and banditry in the region. Those who orchestrated the sealing off of the Amotekun office in Osun should look beyond politics and reopen it immediately. Those responsible for the recent killings in Akinlalu must be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted. The larger picture of the agency must remain our focus.

Our forests have been infested by these elements from the North. We shouldn’t wait until they strike before we react; we must be proactive. The time is now.

However, if Lagos State is not ready to cooperate, the remaining five states — Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti — should act fast. Lagos doesn’t have forests where they can hide. A stitch in time saves nine.”

The EGALITARIAN TEAM urges that Amotekun be empowered, strengthened, and fully equipped with modern tools, training, and operational capacity to prevent crime before it escalates. At the same time, the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must implement State Police, enabling local governments and states to respond more effectively to security challenges.

Good governance is measured by the ability to protect citizens, and Nigerians cannot continue to endure repeated attacks while waiting for delayed interventions. Strengthening Amotekun and instituting State Police are not just policy recommendations—they are urgent necessities to prevent crime from expanding and ensure the peace and stability of our communities.

The EGALITARIAN TEAM remains committed to advocating for policies and actions that safeguard citizens and enhance regional security. We call on the leadership of the South West and the Federal Government to act decisively—the lives of Nigerians depend on it.

🚫 SAY NO TO TEENAGE PREGNANCY 🚫

Because girls deserve a better life — just like boys! 💪

Every girl has the right to dream, learn, and grow — not to be forced into early motherhood.
Teenage pregnancy is not just a mistake — it’s a national concern that demands collective action.

📊 DID YOU KNOW?

Over 20 million teenage girls give birth every year worldwide — most in developing countries.

In Nigeria, about 1 in every 5 girls has had a child before the age of 18 (UNICEF).

Teen mothers are more likely to drop out of school, face domestic violence, and suffer from health complications such as obstetric fistula, maternal mortality, and depression.

Babies born to teenage mothers face a higher risk of premature birth and low birth weight.

Teenage pregnancy limits potential, deepens poverty, and ends dreams too soon.

🌍 Let’s act now!
🔹 Parents — Guide and protect your children with love and openness.
🔹 Schools — Integrate comprehensive s*x education and mentorship.
🔹 Government — Enforce laws against child marriage and provide support for vulnerable teens.

Together, we can build a Nigeria where education triumphs over early motherhood and hope replaces hardship.
