5th Nigerian States IGR Awards 2024
FCT AND RIVERS ARE SLUGGING IT OUT FOR THE NO. 2 POSITION AFTER LAGOS
Here are the top 12 Nigerian states in internally generated revenue (IGR) in 2023.
1. Lagos N815,864,679,971
2. FCT N211,100,288,136
3. Rivers N195,414,581,585
4. Ogun N146,875,041,475
5. Delta N114,088,309,225
6. Edo N64,671,497,3627
7. Kaduna N62,490,117,635
8. Kwara N59,642,678,120
9. Oyo N52,745,497,059
10. Akwa Ibom N43,184,024,627
11. Ondo N41,501,551,387
12. Kano N37,379,619,998
FCT overtook Rivers in 2021. Rivers took back the second position in 2023. And FCT has once again flipped it in 2023.
Four among these 12 states are in the South West zone: Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Ondo. Lagos is the permanent leader in IGR amongst Nigeria's 37 subnationals. I don't see any rival to it in the foreseeable future. Maybe in the next 1-2 decades, FCT might become a strong contender with Lagos in IGR. Who knows!
Another four among these 12 states are in the South-South zone: Rivers, Delta, Edo and Akwa Ibom. Edo's IGR performance over the years is quite impressive considering that it doesn't receive the huge 13% derivation funds goes to its South-South sister states: Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa.
North Central zone is represented in this top 12 list by FCT and Kwara, while North West has Kaduna and Kano amongst them. None of the states of the South East zone (Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo) and the North East zone (Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe) made it into this top 12 league in 2023.

Surplus Food in Nigeria
YOU TOO CAN JOIN OUR NATIONWIDE CAMPAIGN TODAY
The annual Nigeria Food Surplus Summit is the central pillar of a 10 years nationwide advocacy that started in June 2024, aimed at helping Nigeria to successfully transition from a net importer of food and agricultural products and services to a net exporter of them. In the next 10 years (2024-2033), we envision that hundreds of well-established commercial farms and food processing companies will spring up in majority of the 774 LGAs of Nigeria, encouraged by the federal and state governments, and financially supported by commercial banks and other lenders.

Surplus Food in Nigeria
FACILITY TOUR OF NIJI GROUP IN IBADAN, OYO STATE, TODAY
My tour of NIJI Group (Niji Foods) in Ibadan, Oyo State, today is a continuation of my nationwide tour of the leading agribusiness companies and organizations in Nigeria, the major commercial bank lenders to the Nigerian agricultural industry, and the ministry of agriculture of the FCT and the 36 states of Nigeria. I am undertaking these visits as part of our nationwide awareness campaign titled, "SURPLUS FOOD IN NIGERIA." This is a national advocacy championed voluntarily by our company, Alford Conferences Limited (Alford Events), to help Nigeria to transition from being a net importer of food and agricultural products and services to a net exporter of them. We believe that this national aspiration can be translated into reality in the next 10 years.
Within this period, 2024-2024, we want food to become very surplus in Nigeria; for the country to be able to feed itself adequately and have a large surplus for export. We are taking a cue from the Netherlands, the 2nd largest agribusiness exporter in the world today, next to United States. The annual Nigeria Food Surplus Summit is one of the major initiatives towards driving this aspiration to fruition.
As I interacted with Engr. Kolawole Adeniji, the Founder & CEO of Niji Group today, I was even more reassured about my decision to help to champion this national aspiration. I'll talk about this agro-industrial group during the weekend. I am pleased to invite you, as an individual or an organization, to join Alford Conferences Limited and REVENUE Magazine, our web-based publication to help drive this lofty national food campaign. You can participate in this summit, slated for November 20-22, 2024 in Abuja as a partner, sponsor, exhibitor, and delegate. Download the event participation brochure on www.alfordevents.com and register today. There's still a room for a discount on the participation rates if you do so by latest October 31, 2024.
