A young boy once asked an old farmer, “What is the secret to happiness?”

The farmer smiled and handed him a spoon with two drops of oil on it.

“Walk around my farm and come back without spilling the oil.”

The boy did exactly that.

“Did you see the beautiful flowers, the animals, and the sunset?” the farmer asked.

“No,” the boy replied. “I was focused on the oil.”

The farmer nodded. “Now go again, but this time enjoy everything around you.”

The boy returned smiling, describing all the wonderful things he had seen.

“And the oil?” asked the farmer.

The spoon was empty.

The farmer said, “The secret to life is to enjoy the beauty around you while still taking care of what matters most.”
