Basic Mathematics

'Will you be able to make my child good in Mathematics', asked the worried mother who I guessed was in her late twenties.

Her tone spoke volumes. She was so 'sober' to put it in a word. We have hired three persons before now to handle her in Mathematics but they always complain of her not being focused. They all left when they grew tired of her though they made a fortune in the process.

Money for teaching her daughter was not a problem as seen by the many luxuries that laid around the compound. If the surrounding were this golden, how much more the interior. People get money o👏

I asked that the daughter be called for assessment in the presence of the mother and the CCTV cameras that were littered in every nook and cranny of this palace.

After three steps of prepping, I got my answers.

We started classes for the first week, which I had privily termed "week of discovery" I really needed to know what was wrong with this intelligent girl.

After 3days of not really teaching Mathematics but asking questions and playing to her gallery, I got the root cause of her seeming poor performance in Mathematics.

Distractions (at home and especially in school).

There were many sides to it sha. At the end, we were able to redirect her focus and her performance in Mathematics blessed the mum's heart.

I was able to in three months give her the basic rudiments she needed to excel in Mathematics. I ended the project as was led. Other projects came calling.

What a loving mother she had, Dad was also very supportive though he was most times at work. I only saw him three in those three months. Nsuto utom😀. The family blessed me in no small way (you should understand what I mean)

THE BASIC MATHEMATICS TEACHER.

I remember on that fateful day when I was called out in company of one other pupil and was asked to give solution to a mathematical problem. I was in Primary 4. (Don't try calculating the year oooo😊)

I couldn't get that fixed🙄, However, the other pupil, a girl simplified the problem and wrote the correct answer on the board. Everyone celebrated her and ofcourse gave me a dose of what the other kind of celebration was...

I left the school that day with a promise to be better in Mathematics.

So why didn't I get the math problem fixed that day? I asked the few stars of Mathematics in my class the next day and they pointed me to what I want to share now. Enter this topic 👇

RULES OF DIVISIBILTY.
This affords you the luxury to look at simple numbers at a glance and know if it can be divisible by the positive integers, 0-9 at least.

Simply put, it gives rules for the dividers of whole numbers.

Now the rules👇

Any whole number is exactly divisible by...

2, if its last digit is even or 0.
3, if the sum of its digits is divisible by 3.
4, if its last two digits form a number divisible by 4.
5, if its last digit is 5 or 0.
6, if its last digit is even and the sum of its digits is divisible by 3.
8, if its last three digits form a number divisible by 8,
9, if the sum of its digits is divisible by 9,
10, if its last digit is 0.

There is no easy rule for division by 7..................................................................................................................

When your child knows this at the upper primary classes, some topics in Mathematics will be a walk in the park - EASY.

It's been an amazing school term/session. A graduation ceremony last Saturday drew the curtains on the 2023/2024 session in the school where I teach. It's time to rest for about four weeks only🥹 before we resume. 🤨

It's also a time to reflect on how I fared with my lesson pupils/students.🤔 Let's go!!!

I was privileged to prep up two pupils for the National Common Entrance Examinations. I know they will do excellently well. I taught them so.

The other one's terminal examination result is yet to be published. Judging from her performance during the Continuous Assessment Test which was awesome, it's an A from me.

The boys are up to their Senoir Secondary Classes. This was a proud moment for me. One of them was the best Mathematics student for his level (Year 9)✅ (Check the attached image)

I also prepared two pupils for Entrance Examinations into another school and they succeeded. This was the most challenging of them all... I pushed them to their best in just 3days.

Your child needs a good Mathematics Teacher to thoroughly tutor him or her on the basics of this very simple subject.

I am very particular about the basics because the strength of a building is tied to its foundation.
