The paper examined how a change of perception via seen agriculture as a business rather than a means of sustenance can drive the creation of wealth, which can help transform rural communities, increase income, reduce poverty and help the continent achieve the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) of no poverty (SDG-1) and food and nutrition security (SDG-2) by 2030.
Part of the data for the work was garnered from field surveys of stakeholders along one of the key crop value chains in one state in the south and one state in the north of the country. The surveys involved questionnaire administration, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews.
It is a good and insightful read...

"Proud Mentor: A Decade of TEF's Entrepreneurship Program"
I am immensely proud to have been a part of the decade-long transformative Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) entrepreneurship development program as a mentor.
The recent announcement event on March 22, 2024, marking the tenth anniversary of the program, where I was a special guest, was a momentous occasion that highlighted the incredible impact the foundation has had on young African entrepreneurs.
Since its 2014 inception, the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme has empowered a new generation of African entrepreneurs, catalyzing job creation and economic empowerment across all 54 African countries. The announcement of the 2024 cohort, with 1,104 beneficiaries receiving $5,000 each, demonstrates TEF's ongoing commitment to nurturing African talent.
Anthony Elumelu's vision to democratize luck and spread prosperity in Africa has resulted in over $100 million disbursed to 20,000+ beneficiaries, creating over 400,000 jobs. The program's emphasis on Africapitalism highlights the importance of private sector-led development for Africa's sustainable future.
The impact of the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme extends far beyond financial metrics. It is about empowering individuals to realize their dreams, make a difference in their communities, and contribute to the continent's overall development. The success stories of TEF alumni, who have generated over $1.2 billion in revenue collectively, serve as powerful examples of what can be achieved with determination, support, and opportunity.
As a mentor for a couple of years now, I am privileged to have played a small part in this journey of empowerment and growth. Seeing the impact of the program firsthand reaffirms my belief in the transformative power of entrepreneurship and the importance of investing in Africa's youth.
I look forward to continuing to support and champion the next generation of African entrepreneurs as they strive to make their mark on the world.
