Orange Tables
This month, as we mark Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we are choosing to do more than “raise awareness.” We are choosing to confront the culture that protects harm, to listen without interrogation, and to believe people without conditions. Because awareness means nothing if it doesn’t change how we respond.
Merry Christmas to the women who have put the weight down. The ones who no longer feel obligated to be everything to everyone. The ones who have stepped away from roles that were assigned, not chosen. Walking away from unnecessary emotional labor is not selfishness it is clarity. It is recognizing that constantly absorbing expectations, smoothing egos, and shrinking yourself is not a virtue.
There is a particular kind of strength in unlearning the pressure to overperform womanhood. To stop proving you are “good,” “patient,” “strong,” or “selfless” enough to deserve rest. Some women this year decided they will no longer be the default caretaker of everyone’s feelings. They will no longer stretch beyond capacity to maintain appearances. They chose boundaries over approval, peace over praise.
So this Christmas is also for the women who disrupted tradition in order to protect themselves. The ones who said no. The ones who delegated. The ones who let things be imperfect. The ones who are redefining what love and responsibility look like on their own terms. May this season meet you in your softness, not in your sacrifice.
