72 HOURS MAKEOVER CHALLENGE: C’RIVER PHC’S INNOVATION AT FAST TRACKING COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE DELIVERY

In its determination to ensure that quality healthcare delivery is achieved at the grass root, the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency has proposed an innovation that will fast tract the resuscitation of ailing health care facilities across the eighteen local government areas of Cross River State.

Tagged “72 HOURS MAKEOVER CHALLENGE”, the Director of PHC Dr. Betta Edu stated this in calabar while unveiling her plans to on-line media practitioners as the administration of Prof. Ben Ayade enters the final strait.

She said that it was the desire of Governor Ben Ayade to ensure that Primary health centres in the State are functional and properly positioned to deliver healthcare at the Local Governments across the State, adding that not only will the action mitigate movement of people to cities to access medical attention, but will go a long way in addressing mortality at the grass root.

Dr. Edu who expressed her optimism about the success of the project, maintained however that such success is hinged on the effective cooperation from stakeholder especially the media.

According to the DG, “concerning this project, the media is to inundate the airspace by creating sustained awareness on the CRPHC 72 hours makeover challenge; getting the message across to the people especially those at the rural areas, the youths, community leaders, organizations, and other partners who will be volunteering by contributing in whatever form to ensure the success of the project”.

Dr. Edu said that apart from the fact that photographs of Health facilities will be received from the LGA’s, stakeholders made up of the media, community leaders will be involved in judging and selecting the projects in other to ensure the credibility of the process.

While imploring the on-line media and other volunteers to see their services and partnership as a sacrifice in the course of advancing humanity, she revealed that their name will be inked in gold as partners who played critical roles in the achievement of the feat and the betterment of their State.

CRSG BEGINS SCHOOL BASED DE-WORMING EXERCISE IN AKPABUYO; SHUN DRUGS OTHER SOCIAL VICES, COMMISSIONER WARNS

The Cross River State Government today flagged off a 3-day school based De-worming exercise in two schools, one Primary and one Secondary, in Akpabuyo LGA of the State. The exercise which is targeted at school aged children as a way of combating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) in the State is going on simultaneously across all the schools in the 18 LGAs and 196 wards in the State, the State NTD Coordinator Dr. Tom Igbang revealed during his welcome address.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, in her response hinted that the State NTD indices has been on a downward slope in recent times as the State Government led by His Excellency, Sen. Prof Ben Ayade is championing the fight against NTD in the country. She also challenged the students to endeavor to spread the word and bring a friend each to partake in the exercise.

The Commissioner for Education, Hon. Godwin Etta however urged the students to shun drug use, cultism and other social vices as they are the fastest killers of dreams and young minds. He urged them to remain focused and committed in their academic pursuits.

The Commandant of Police Secondary School, Akpabuyo, Isp. George Onah thanked the State Government and Evidence Action for their consistency in driving the initiative, while Headteacher of the Jehovah Shalom African Primary School promised not to relent in inculcating sound moral and educational behavior into the kids.

Cross River State Government has reported remarkable achievements in tackling NTDs since taking a particularly aggressive stance in 2017 when the State Governor, His Excellency, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade pledged his commitment towards elimination of NTDs in a High Level Stakeholders meeting at the World Health Organization HQ in Geneva. An estimated three thousand people have received treatment and antibiotics since 2015, however there’s a need to scale up in Key Population Areas (KPA).
