In her welcome address, Prof. Bassey thanked the new Police boss for the visit and congratulated him on his appointment. She assured him of her administration's willingness to partner the State Police Command to check negative vices in the University community and its environs.

The Ag. VC expressed deep appreciation over the swift and timely response she received from the Command, during the last student’s agitation against the implementation of the "no fees no exams" policy in the institution. She recounted how the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, DCP Sanusi Muhammed, was practically on ground, during the incident, to ensure the return of normalcy on campus. She used the medium to thank other security agencies in the state for, steadily, supporting the University, at the point of her need.

UNICROSS Acting VC Holds Family Meeting With Students

The Acting Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Professor Francisca Bassey, has held what she described as a family meeting with the Student Union Government body and other leaders of Student Associations in the University.
The meeting held two days ago in her office.
It is the first meeting in the second semester of 2024/2025 session which began yesterday.

During the meeting, the Acting Vice Chancellor reviewed the first semester and stated that despite the challenges encountered, substantive progress was made in the areas of upload of results and fee payments.
She attributed the success recorded to teamwork, stating that since her administration came on board, members of the Management Team and other staff of UNICROSS have been working tirelessly to tackle the various challenges she met.
She added that no single person can take credit for the achievements that have been made.

She identified processing and uploading of backlogs of results, late payment of school fees and the inability to meet deadlines for various registrations by students, as some of the challenges that her administration met.
The Acting Vice Chancellor emphasized that the University's Management will ensure that everything gets right and also ensure that students graduate when they are supposed to graduate.
She promised that the mop-up examination results of 2023/2024 academic session would be published soon.

The Acting Vice Chancellor promised that some of the anomalies in UNICROSS would be a thing of the past and enjoined members of the Student Union Government and other leaders of students to convey this positive information to their colleagues.
She said: "Give your colleagues good orientation. Timelines should always be kept. I have never joked with the welfare of children. But at the same time, I am firm and strict. Pampering a child will never give you the result you need. Pampering students on campus will never give the University the output it needs.
We must balance it. You need to attend lectures and submit assignments on time. Stop sorting. If there is nobody to give sorting, nobody will collect sorting. For the girls, don't trade your bodies for marks. If you attend lectures and if you turn in assignment and pass exams, nobody will exploit you."

She expressed gratitude to the SUG body for cooperating with the University's Management this past semester and said: “We fought, yet we made it. Despite disagreements, we made peace.”
She prayed that God would continue to guide and protect the students.

On his part, the Registrar of UNICROSS, Mr. Victor Ene, encouraged the students to avail themselves of the benefits of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) by applying for the loan.

In his vote of thanks at the meeting, Ibeng Lazarus, President of Student Union Government, appreciated the Acting Vice Chancellor and other members of the University's Management Team for the interface with students.
He added that this will ensure that peace reigns across all campuses of UNICROSS.

On his part, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ekpeyong Nyong, commended UNICROSS Management for being able to weather the storm of the past semester successfully.

The meeting was held in a relaxed and very convivial mood, spiced with surprises.
A highpoint of this very good development was the moment the Acting Vice Chancellor vacated her official seat and invited Emmanuel Olom, the President of Presidents of Faculties, to take over the seat and act as Acting Vice Chancellor for five minutes.
During his "tenure in office as Acting Vice Chancellor for the Acting Vice Chancellor", Emmanuel Olom declared a one-day postponement of GSS registration for the benefit of those who missed the deadline.
The University's Management team unanimously upheld the declaration.
This unrehearsed development received a spontaneous standing ovation from everyone at the meeting.

The Director of Administration, Professor Tom Ojikpong, the Bursar, Dr. Ebom Ekpe; the Public Relations Officer, Mr. One Ebri Onen, the Librarian, Dr. Mrs Victoria Iyishu, and the Director of Exams and Results, Dr Anderson Etika were also present at the meeting.
