Where's the lie here?

Chess Master Tunde Onakoya pledges to sponsor the little girl whose mom was rediculed for taking her along to sweep early in the morning.

He writes...

Extremely cruel to humiliate a mother in front of her daughter like this. Even worse that this was recorded and posted on social media.

My mother used to sweep people’s houses and gutters in 2016. It hurt too much that I could do nothing financially to stop her. I often insisted on going with her, just to help fetch the water she needed so we could finish quicker and get back home before daylight. I didn’t want anyone to see us. The poverty that pushes one to hide their labour in the dark is a painful one.

Yes, that child should not be working. But more than outrage, what she and her mother deserve is compassion. The only humane response is to help.

If no one has done this already, I would like to take full responsibility for the girl’s education through university. I hope this eases their burden in some way. These are incredibly hard times.

Our Privilege blinds us in ways we’ll never truly understand.

Moral Lesson: What the enemy meant for shame, God has turned around for their good.

MPOX CASE REPORTED IN OBUDU, CROSS RIVER HEALTH COMMISSIONER CONFIRMS

A case of Mpox has been confirmed in the Okoshe community within Obudu Local Government Area, Cross River State, according to the Ministry of Health. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, made the announcement on Saturday in Calabar, following confirmation from the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja.

Dr. Ayuk disclosed that the Ministry was alerted on August 19th about a possible Mpox or Chickenpox diagnosis by the State Epidemiologist of Ebonyi. A sample was sent to the national reference lab, and on August 24th, the results confirmed Mpox and ruled out Chickenpox. The case involves a female from Okoshe village in Obudu, who sought medical care at the Federal Medical Centre in Abakaliki.

The Commissioner stated that an investigation into her travel history is ongoing to understand her visit to Ebonyi, as there is no known medical referral or history from Obudu. He assured that the state government is actively working to prevent an outbreak in Obudu while this investigation continues.

Dr. Ayuk has instructed the immediate activation of the Mpox Emergency Operation Center, with Dr. Ekpo Ekpo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, appointed as the Incident Manager. Additionally, he has ordered the Obudu local government response team, supported by the state team, to begin mitigation measures. These include identifying and quarantining symptomatic contacts, collecting samples from these contacts, and raising awareness in communities, schools, and churches.

As a long-term strategy, Dr. Ayuk mentioned that plans are in place to provide monthly financial support for surveillance teams in LGAs, establish isolation wards in government hospitals, and ensure the availability of infection prevention materials, along with ongoing health promotion and advocacy efforts.
